May Meeting

Hello and welcome to the newsletter.

It’s lovely to see more signs of spring.  We’ve had the daffodils and crocus and now we’ve got bluebells in abundance.  We were so blessed with the weather over the Easter weekend and I hope you made the most of it. I expect many of you were out in the garden doing some catch-up work; hopefully you didn’t suffer backache afterwards.

Dee has been very busy on our behalf and, like me, I am sure you really appreciate her efforts.

With regard to trips and events – Please can everyone bring their trip/event money in a sealed envelope with their name on, list of trips and cost please. This will make it easier for Dee rather than having a queue all waiting to pay, and will save her finding change. Please make cheques  payable to Tysoe W.I.

Ettington Recycling Monday 20th May is full. If you haven’t already paid please do so at May meeting. The minibus will leave from the Village Hall at 9.40am. Please wear sensible footwear and, since there are stairs and gantries,  it would be advisable to wear trousers. The tour lasts approx two hours. We will then visit Monkeybean cafe for tea and coffee, (included in cost). You will of course be able to purchase cake etc. if you wish

Group evening Wednesday 22nd May, 7.00 for 7.30. Dr Helena Boschi is our speaker. The bar will be open and canapés will be available. Tickets £8, must be paid for at May meeting, as we need to confirm numbers by the 10th.

Historic Walking Tour around Coventry Sunday June 23rd with top Guide Roger Bailey. Leaving Tysoe approx 10.00am we have four spaces left available to members £16, as well as non members £20. Again payment required next week please.

Group trip to Highclere Tuesday 16th July, departing Tysoe 7.30am. We have been allocated 3 extra spaces from other W.I.s so get in quickly. Group funds are paying for coach hire, so you will only be paying for entry at group rate, £18.50

Willow Weaving Workshop Saturday June 8th at 3.00.  We have managed to secure Rachel Harwood to come and give us a 3 hour  workshop. She will show us how to make an obelisk/wigwam and smaller plant supports  just in time to enjoy in our gardens. Cost £30 to include all materials and refreshments. Numbers are limited so book asap.

Advice and demonstration on skin care and make up with Annie Broe, followed by showing us how to wear our scarves! Wednesday August 28th 7pm. Cost £12 members £15 non members to include refreshments. You may remember that Annie was with us a couple of years ago with a different topic and we had an enjoyable evening so I’m sure this will also be very interesting.

We are in the process of organising a theatre trip, more details soon.

As part of  “Get Creative” initiative by the Arts Council,  Brailes WI  have organised a craft day in Brailes Village Hall on Friday May 17th 10am to 3pm. Entry is free and the crafts for you to try will either be free or possibly a small cost to cover materials. You are very welcome to attend.

As you are no doubt aware Tysoe residents will be again opening their gardens on June 1st and 2nd as part of the National Garden Scheme. Liz would be grateful for any offerings of cake to serve with the refreshments.  You can bring them to the Village Hall on Saturday morning. If you are able to assist in any other way please get in touch with Liz.

Some of you have been asking about the Walkie Talkie Group. Unfortunately Beki is no longer a WI member so unless somebody else would like to take up the reins and organise some walks during the day or evening hours then I’m afraid there will be no more walks.  If this is something that interests you and something you feel you could do then please contact a committee member.

As you know the meeting next Wednesday takes the form of our Resolution meeting and there are two resolutions we will be discussing – “The Decline In Rural Bus Services” and “Don’t Fear The Smear.” A social evening will follow. There will not be competition this month but still a Flower of the Month so bring them along.  It will be lovely to see what the good weather has done to your garden. Please bring a photograph of yourself as part of the “entertainment”! We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday May 1st.
