March 2019 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to our latest Newsletter. We have been having some lovely weather recently and it’s great to see the daffodils and crocus coming through, as well as a plentiful supply of snowdrops still about. Spring is on the way!

If you haven’t made sure to update your contact details please speak to Dee at the meeting.

We only have two hostesses booked for both April and May meetings and we really do need four to be sure the refreshments are run efficiently. If you feel able to offer assistance please contact a committee member on Wednesday.

If you cast your mind back to last Autumn you will remember  the very successful sport and social evening we hosted for our Group WI’s.  On May 22nd  (an evening meeting) we will be hosting another event here in Tysoe when once again we can meet members from our neighbouring WI’s.  This time it will feature refreshments and a talk by Dr Helena Boschi.  Helena spoke at  our April meeting last year and we were totally captivated.  This time her topic is “Our Biased Brain” which I’m sure will be equally interesting. We will give you more information later but this is just to whet your appetite and put the date in your diary

Flower of the Month – For those new members who may not already know, and those who may have forgotten, the rule for submitting a flower into this competition is that it must be a single bloom only. We really love to see what you grow in your gardens so please keep bringing them along.

At the last meeting I mentioned WFWI’s collection for “The Homeless Period”.  This includes new, unused, toiletries eg, soap, flannels, shower gel, tooth brushes, toothpaste, sunblock etc. They would also like us to include sanitary wear ie tampons, sanitary towels.  If you can spare anything for the collection then we would appreciate you bringing them to the meeting on Wednesday.

Some people have been asking about the speaker and competition for the next couple of months. I will, of course, put these here but just to remind you – all this information is on the annual programme.  If you have mislaid yours please ask one of us and we will be sure to let you have another copy.  The meeting on April 3rd is “From Passion to Profit with Cake” when the speaker will be Deborah Goodwin from White Hyacinth. The competition is to bake something Easter themed. The following month will be the Resolution Meeting on May 1st.  There will be no speaker and no competition, but don’t worry, there will be something to entertain you afterwards.

Of course this now leads us neatly to the next meeting on Wednesday March 6th when Alexandra Messervy invites us to the Palace and will be talking about “Queen of the World”.  The competition is to make a tiara or crown and we are looking forward to seeing your creations; I’m sure they will be fit for a queen!

We hope to see as many of you as possible at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 6th March.

Christine Harrop – Secretary
