Hello, and welcome to our newsletter. My goodness, where on earth does the time go?
First of all I really must comment on the fabulous fun evening we had on Wednesday with the group of local WI’s with which we are associated. The fish and chip supper was delicious and what followed was noise, fun and laughter. We played darts, giant Connect Four, curling, skittles and of course there was an excellent quiz going on throughout the evening. A very successful evening.
We are delighted to hear that some of you who are not members of the Craft and Laugh group have expressed a wish to make poppies for the Festival of Remembrance. We will be holding a craft session on Thursday 11th October in the Village Hall at 7pm. We do have wool, felt, felting wool, fabric, cupcake cases etc but you are very welcome to bring anything red that could be used eg crepe paper, tissue paper etc. The cost will be £2 to help towards the hire of the hall and refreshments.
If anybody has already made poppies please bring them along to the meeting on Wednesday. We would like to assess how many we actually have and how many more we might need.
For those who will be joining us going to Leicester to visit the Richard 111 exhibition – if you have not already made your payment then please do so by September 3rd. You can either bring your money to the meeting, in an envelope, or pop it through Dee’s door ( remember to put your name and which trip on the envelope). Cost is £25 members £30 non members.
There are still some places available on the Mosaic workshop on November 3rd at 2pm. Members £14 non members £18. Payment required by October 20th please. As above please use a labeled envelope to give your money to Dee.
The visit to the Houses of Parliament has been unavoidably postponed. Unfortunately the House of Lords are holding a chamber event that day. As yet we do not have a new date.
On Wednesday we are going to be asking you for suggestions for trips and events so please put on your thinking caps and, as Monsieur Poirot would say, “exercise your little grey cells”. As I have said previously we cannot promise to carry out everything but we will seriously consider all suggestions and recommendations.
Several of you have asked if we could obtain more copies of Dr. Helena Boschi’s book ‘Why We Do What We Do’. We have 3 copies for sale, £14.99 and they would make the perfect Christmas gift. Please see Dee if you are interested in purchasing a copy.
Our next meeting takes place on Wednesday 3rd October at 7.30 pm. The topic is “Thoughtfully Wrapped”. This comes at an ideal time when we will soon be thinking about Christmas gifts. It will be great finding out how to wrap those awkward parcels. There will a practical element when Alan Keech will be showing us how to wrap a bottle so please bring a bottle (empty or full!) plus £1. You will be able to amaze your friends if you give a beautifully wrapped bottle instead of just dropping it into a bottle bag.
The competition, in keeping with the subject matter, is to make a gift box.
We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday 3rd October at 7.30pm
Christine Harrop – Secretary
