Welcome to the April Newsletter.
My goodness where have the last four months gone? I’m certain there are fewer hours in the day, and fewer days in the month too, because it is the only possible answer to the rapidly vanishing year!
As part of WFWI’s centenary celebrations it was decided that all WI’s should be “twinned” – think town twinning. Our new twin is Warwick Gates WI and later in the year we will be organising something jointly so we can meet our twin. Am I the only one who thinks it would have been more exciting to twin with another WI overseas? Ah well, we can but dream!
Payment is needed for Arboretum trip 15th May, Fabric Workshop 5th June 7.00pm, and Craft show at NEC on 30th June. Please let Dee have the outstanding money at next weeks meeting. There are a few spaces on each of these if any one is interested. Please see Dee.
We have booked a visit to Richard 111 Visitors Centre in Leicester, plus the cathedral, on Sunday 14th October. Cost is £25 for members, £30 non members. If you would like to go please let Dee know so that she can confirm numbers for transport; we will be using the Shipston Link and will book two mini buses if numbers warrant it.
We are also hoping to visit the Houses of Parliament in November but we are awaiting a date. Cost will be confirmed once we have an idea of numbers and unfortunately this will be a weekday as tours aren’t available at weekends.
There are still a couple of spaces available on the the theatre trip to Oxford to see the musical “The Band” on 31st October at 2.30pm. The cost, which includes transport, is £54 members, £60 non members. Payment in full at June meeting please as the theatre can only hold tickets for a short time.
Dee is taking names for the day trip to Marlow and Henley on Thames on 19th July. Cost £12 members £15 non members.
A £5 deposit guarantees a space on any of our trips or events.
Tickets for the Group tea on 24th May will be available next week and must be paid for ASAP and the cost is £6. Each WI in the group is providing something for the tea and Tysoe, together with Newbold, will be baking cakes. We would appreciate it if some of you could bake for the event – you can claim £3.50 per cake in payment. Please let us know at the the meeting next week or via email/telephone if you are unable to attend the meeting. Dee is waiting to hear from Newbold W.I. as to what they are baking so we will have a better idea what we need to provide. Anyone making cakes needs to deliver them to Dee by noon on the day.
The Camera workshop went very well and even though there were only four of us we all felt we learnt so much and benefited hugely from all the advice and tips imparted by Steve from Kineton Camera Club. We would really recommend having a go and they are willing to come out again if anyone would like to spend a couple of hours learning how to get the best from their camera and how to take a good photo! If you interested let Dee know.
The Craft and Laugh group have booked Lucy Cooke Mosaics to come along on May 16th 2-4 pm. This is a free workshop for members, non members £3.50. A small charge for materials (£3-£5) will be made to anyone who would like to make something. Refreshments are included. If you would like to take part in this workshop it is not necessary to be a member of the Craft and Laugh group. Please let Dee know ASAP.
Last month I told you about the possibility of attending a day course at Denman College. Please let us know if you are interested in attending; a few of you have already put your names down. No date can be arranged until numbers are known. This will be a subsidised trip and available to members only.
Crochet workshop on 24th May is full, but we hope to organise another one later.
August tea this year will take place in the garden of one of our members in Lower Tysoe on August 1st. More information will be available next month.
NGS Open Gardens event is 2nd and 3rd June. Thank you to all those who have previously made cakes and to those who have offered to make cakes this year. In anticipation of another successful event we still need more cakes. If you are able to help please contact Liz Percival 680386. Please bring the cakes to the Village Hall after 11am on Saturday 2nd June or if not convenient contact Liz to make alternative arrangements. Liz will contact individuals who have offered to help on the weekend re times. If anyone else can help, again please contact her. It is hard work but good fun and the more people who help the better. We have our tea ladies reputation to maintain!!! I know some people were unable to make a cake but have offered to provide ingredients. If you are one of them please bring your contributions to the meeting.
Our next meeting is Wednesday 2nd May at 7:30pm and this will be the Resolution Meeting.
There is only one resolution for us to discuss this year. Afterwards we will be holding a fun social event and we will look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. Please provide a plate of food to share with the group eg crisps, sausage rolls, etc etc. There will be no competition.
