Hello and Welcome to our July Newsletter
Wow! On Sunday July 2nd our Service of Thanksgiving, Commitment and Re-dedication was truly a celebration and one that will be remembered for a long time to come! It was great to see everybody dressed up and carrying those wonderful sunflowers. The church looked absolutely amazing. There are so many people to thank! First of all our president, Jacqui, who had the idea in the first place; the committee who worked very hard throughout the year in the planning; the history group for all the amazing facts and information they discovered; the flower fairies who created such stunning displays; our amazing choir which came together at short notice but performed brilliantly; everybody who made such delicious cakes; those who loaned items for the decorations and displays in church; the bell ringing team for their amazing peal; the Reverend Canon Jill Tucker, Reverend Canon Tom Moffatt and St Mary’s Church for allowing us to use the church for our celebration; and finally huge thanks to our wonderful members – after all, without you we would have nothing to celebrate! We had many cards and letters of thanks from our visitors. The retiring collection raised £224. 30 for Shipston Home Nursing.
Tysoe Flower Show, as you all know, takes place on Saturday August 19th. We did such a wonderful job last year with the teas that we have been asked to perform our magic again this year. We would really appreciate any donations of cakes. Please let Liz know if you are able to contribute so that she has some idea of what will be available. Cakes should be brought to the Pavilion on Friday evening between 5.45 and 6.45 pm or on Saturday morning. If you are going on holiday but are still willing to bake, we are happy to freeze your contributions. Again speak to Liz or a member of the committee. We also need people to donate time on the day. Even one hour would be helpful. This would mean that everybody would get chance to visit the show rather than just a few people working hard and seeing nothing.
We would like to welcome our new members into the fold and we hope you enjoy our meetings and outings etc. We are always open to new ideas so if you think of anything please speak to a member of the committee. I can’t promise we will take up every suggestion but we are open minded and will review all ideas brought to us.
Our next outing/celebration is our August Tea in Posh Frocks and Hats on Wednesday August 2nd. This year it takes place at Lighthorne Pavilion Café. We need to let the café proprietors know numbers, and we will be car sharing, so please let us know by July 29th if you will be attending. Cost is £10 and needs to be paid in advance so if you have not already paid please put your money in an envelope with your name through the letterbox of 4, Windmill Way by July 29th. To extend our celebrations Christine Simmonds has kindly offered her garden so that we can have Pimms OnThe Lawn. Those who attended last year (when Lesley Gurney kindly loaned us her garden) will remember how much we enjoyed it. If you are unable to attend the tea but are available for Pimms we would love to see you at 5.30 pm at Vale Croft, Lane End.
A Cheese and Wine Party will be held in the Village Hall on Wednesday 20th September at 7.30pm. Tickets are £15 and available from Dee, Roma Payne, Jane Gardner, the Village Store or on the door on the night. This event is open to friends, family members and all villagers.
Now that we have so many members two refreshment hostesses are no longer sufficient to cope with the numbers to be catered for. We need four people to offer their services for each meeting. They will need to arrive at the Village Hall at 7pm in order to prepare the kitchen and will need to provide cake. Please don’t worry if you are not able to bake – there are plenty of cakes available in the shops … lol! (Those who attended the performance of The Girls will know what I mean!)
There are still some places available on the coach to Portsmouth and Southsea on July 27th. This is another outing that is available to non-members. £15 per person. Contact Dee.
Instead of our December meeting we will be holding an Evening of Entertainment. “The WI Has Talent – Or Does It?” Can you sing, play an instrument, give a recitation, act out a sketch etc? What about writing a rap song about the WI? Can you participate in the fun? We will be forming a sub-committee in September to get things organised so if you think you can help with this (whether or not you can perform) please let a committee member know at the September meeting. We are giving you plenty of time to hone your talents and skills.
We look forward to seeing you all at August Tea and Pimms On The Lawn
Wednesday August 2nd.
leaving Village Hall at 2.30
This replaces monthly evening meeting, so next meeting in village hall will be September.
