Hello and Welcome to our June Newsletter
We have a very busy few months ahead, so forgive the length of this newsletter.
We all enjoyed our visit to James Butler’s studio, it was fascinating to actually see his sculptures in progress and hear and see how he works. This was followed by a trip to the “pub” which went down well.
The following day saw 16 of us board the Shipston Link mini bus to visit Laskett Gardens. Despite the torrential rain we all agreed it was the most magical gardens, designed and created with so much love. We even met Sir Roy Strong himself!
We have booked a large table at the Indian Queen on Friday 23rd. June at 8.30. If you haven’t let us know you are coming please can you do so by Monday 20th please. Partners and non members welcome. £20 per head for set menu.
Our next event is the Village Hall open day where the W.I. will be on display along with other users of the hall, this takes place on Saturday 24th June, 2-4pm. If you are able to help man our table, please let us know.
Our really big event is our church service on Sunday 2nd. July at 4.30. Everyone is welcome, please bring your friends and family, this is an open event for all
Members will gather outside the Reading Rooms at 4.10 to proceed together. It would be lovely to have as many members as possible. Posh frocks, (and hats?)
We are still looking for a member to read a prayer, anyone like to do this?
We need the following, if anyone can help please:
Old brown ginger jars, a milk churn would be very useful as we do need some larger containers, baskets – the shopping kind rather than decorative.
We need a as many members and friends to bring garden flowers. They can be left in church any time on Friday 30th, There will be a bucket of water in the porch in case no one is there. We will need them before 4.30 as we are meeting at 5ish to arrange them. Containers can be taken into church any day that week – best to leave them inside church – We will leave a notice in church and box at the back of church where they can be placed. Absolutely NO containers that are precious. We will be very careful but cannot guarantee their safety – a label with name and phone number would be handy so that we can return them.
We would also appreciate cake donations, and vintage hats for use within church service.
Our July meeting on 5th, at 7.30 sees us welcoming our speaker from Charlecote Park, a local National Trust property following Wine and nibbles.
We are looking for couple of refreshment hostesses, any volunteers?
Competition for a July is Bake an item suitable for afternoon tea, plus flower of the month.
Talking about baking, we have been asked again to take on the Teas for Tysoe flower show, we are victims of our own success! We need cakes as well as volunteers to help throughout the afternoon . Please let us know if you can help. If we have enough of us, it will mean short slots enabling everyone to enjoy the show too.
Our annual coach trip to the seaside takes place on 27th July. We have hired Martins coach to take us to Portsmouth and Southsea, leaving Tysoe at 8.00am.
Apart from the seaside, there is so much to do and see. Look out for posters with list of attractions. Guide leaflets and maps will be available on the day. £15 each.
We have booked afternoon tea at Lighthorne Pavillion Cafe for our August 2nd. “Posh dresses and hats” tea, this takes the place of an evening meeting. More details at July meeting. It’s a lovely venue, and they are erecting a marquee for us.
We have two seats available for the Wellington Barracks trip on August 9th. This is an early start, but well worth it. Major David Sewell has very kindly offered us his services, we will get to see behind the scenes. £20 each. There is also the option of having a guided tour of Westminster Abbey £18. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to come. (Open to non members).
Payment for both these trips by our July meeting please. Or pop through letterbox at 4 Windmill Way, in an envelope with your name, tel. No and trip.
Please note if you have to cancel less than 48 hours before trip, we cannot refund.
